Break by Hannah Moskowitz. This is a favorite of mine for many reasons. The prose and figurative language rock, and the characters are memorable. Let's not forget this awesome chick was only SIXTEEN when she wrote it. Sighs, green monster of envy grumbles! But the number one reason why I love this book is its narrated by male MC, Jonah. Male MC's are close to my heart since DHtP is narrated by a male MC. I expect great, big, and fantastical things from Hannah.
Silver Phoenix by Cindy Pon. Cindy is probably one of the kindest, coolest, most giving writers I know. I met her through the AW boards, and she was kind enough to answer some questions I had about my own career. I read Silver Phoenix late into the night, devouring the fantastic world building and characters that Cindy created, not to mention listening to my growling stomach at her menu of delicacies! I can't wait to read the sequel! 
Shiver by Maggie StievfvaterI'm not a big vampire and werewolf person; I'll admit it. But I heard a lot of buzz about this book, and after it was especially raved about by my good buddy, Jamie, I thought I'd give it a shot. I LOVED it! I devoured in one night, and I was totally sad for it to end. I'm stoked that I don't have to wait a long time for the sequel!
The Unbiden Series: Moonstone and Moon Rise by Marilee BrothersTalk about under appreciated authors...Marilee has one of the freshest and funniest YA voices I've heard in a long, long time. From the first page of Moonstone, I was snorting with laughter and totally connected with Allie Emerson, the heroine. I fell in love with Junior, was angst ridden when he went away in the 2nd book, but then fell equally hard for the semi bad boy Beck. I can't wait for the 3rd book to come out, and I'm stoked to here it includes FAIRIES! Awesome!
And last, but not least, is the Harry Potter series. Yes, I know they've been out FOREVER, but I didn't read them until this summer. I devoured all seven books at a stealthy pace, often reading late, late into the night because I just couldn't bear to put them down. I'm a self-professed PotterHead, and I'm proud of it. The world, the characters, the mystery, the magic, that JK Rowling created is beyond comprehension, and I'm just bummed I missed out on it all these years!!
And it goes without saying that besides these 5 pubbed books, I've been blessed and privileged to read some awesome unpubbed works by writer buddies. You guys rock, and I can't wait to see you in print!

Sometimes I wish I could erase certain parts of my memory so I could read HP anew. I am looking forward to reading Shiver and Silver Phoenix sometimes soon!

Oh, I loved HP. In fact, I got the last one while I was writing my Masters thesis, and pushed to finish that day so I could read. LOL! I think now that I've seen you recommend Moonstone a couple of times now, I'll have to pick that up!
I died a little inside when I finished the last HP book, it was like my childhood was over. I grew up on those books. You seriously only got to them THIS summer?
Ohhh Most of the books you mentioned are on my to read in 2010 list! I bought two copies of Silver Pheonix but unfortunately they were not for me :( I had no interest in reading Shiver until after I read Lament and Ballad.. I now <3 Maggie Stiefvater.

Hey, I read HP over this summer too, also felt like a big fool for not picking it up sooner. I also read Break, which I enjoyed (and yes, I'm jealous too). The only thing I didn't like about it was the believability issue - not his breaking his bones, but the parents. Would any parent in their right mind breastfeed knowing that the stuff could kill their other kid? I mean, I know they were supposed to be a disfunctional family, but still. Just didn't make sense to me. Thought the writing was really good though. Ok, onto your kissing scenes.
